It had poured rain all night along with a thunderstorm and it ended up being cloudy and cool all day.
We went for breakfast which included fruit, chilaquiles and cheese. We then walked all the way from Playacar to Playa del Carmen and strolled down Fifth Avenue, browsing through little shops and stores. I bought two Mexican hand painted ceramic magnets.
Upon returning back, we were so tired and sat down for a smoothie and lunch at the resort.
We then strolled along the beach and relaxed in some beach chairs.
In the late afternoon, mom and I took a taxi to town and visited the restaurant Bio Natural which specializes in organic and vegetarian food. We had a fruit and ice cream dessert and a fruit smoothie which was delicious. We sat outside on some high top wooden tables and enjoyed the breeze.
We then took a nice walk through some areas in Playa del Carmen that we had not been to, to do some exploring. We walked down some small side streets near Fifth Avenue. The buildings, restaurants, shops and hotels were so unique and brightly coloured. Some buildings had bright blue walls with old steel gates and the next building had yellow painted walls. We walked by a hostel that was bright pink and beautiful! We also discovered a park with a big water fountain and skatepark. It was surrounded by beautifully different hotels on all sides. We then walked back to our resort along Tenth Avenue which was much less crowded and touristy than Fifth Avenue. It had more authentic and unique restaurants and shops as well.
I love exploring new cities and sights and just people watching in foreign countries. It is the best part of travel for me, along with cultural experiences. I had a lovely day with my mom and we took lots of pictures with all the pretty walls and gates.
Looking forward to going bike riding tomorrow morning and then relaxing by the pool. We also have another a la carte restaurant booked for tomorrow night at Hacienda Don Diego, a Mexican restaurant on the resort, for the second time this week.
